4. In the Feelings video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and it's effects on emotions?

1) After watching the videos and referring to our text, I can infer that color is simply an additional element of light. The process in which light is deflected allows the color to appear, which in turn gives people certain psychological and physiological responses. Many of us have an intimate association with color by way of personal or cultural circumstances. For example, the color red is a symbolism of joy and good fortune in the Chinese culture – hence why we see it frequently during major events like the Chinese New Year. Colors like Baker-Miller pink has been scientifically proven to alleviate aggressive behavior.

2) Certain theoretical aspects of color that intrigued me were Sir Isaac Newton’s discovery of refracted colors. Newton realized that a single ray of sunlight shining through a prism refracted into several different colors which appeared to be a rainbow. He then created a second prism where he recombined all of the colors into white light. I find this quite fascinating that no object has a single color, it is all just an illusion of light. From this historical observation, the color wheel was then created.

3) During the video, the biggest impact came with the idea that artists hold the innate ability to alter the audience’s emotional state based on the colors that they use in their work. By combining, layering, or shading colors, for example, this can evoke different emotional responses.

4) After watching this video, the biggest impact about color to me was hands down the mind-blowing contrasting work of Goya and Da Vid. Goya demonstrates the power of darkness and the emotional of seriousness that it conveys. Whereas Da Vid demonstrates the power of nobility and improvement. Respectively, both artists give art its own sense of power that can impact one’s emotional state.
